Rainer Maria Rilke -

So now my prayer is this: You, my own deep soul,
trust me. I will not betray you.
My blood is alive with many voices
telling me I am made of longing. What mystery breaks over me now?
In its shadow I come into life.
For the first time I am alone with you - you, my power to feel.

* * *

simply being
and
the moment
I'm lost again
so much
said
where words
melt inside
Grace
like
ocean?
sky?
vast plain?
like
outside?
inside?
You send
words
to weary me
so time can run off my skin
and I drop gladly
into
You, Silence
to rest, alone inside Your Arms

Rilke speaks, "I am made of longing." My first book was An Ache for Union. We come upon this longing, this ache, for nothing in this world satisfies us but momentarily. We become exhausted with the pursuit. We stop. We acknowledge the desperation, we hold it, and we pour it out into the Silence.

This yearning is a means to lead us Home. The ache is a voice. There, we do not find the peace we sought, peace comes upon us.

We are made for longing, yes, but not to remain in that feeling of lack. Longing arises in the sense of separation. When we have drunk enough of the Beloved's wineglass, thirst sated, we rest content within - "within," the single place to go for this delectable release.

Why? Only in Love is there peace. In Love, the pursuit of Love and loves settle in Quiet. And there we are, at last, neither anyplace nor someplace, but in Grace. We rest in the Sabbath of not any day.

And, now, we can pray with Rilke, "What mystery breaks over me now?" We do not seek an answer, and we feel no need for a reply. Our heart says, as always has, and, finally, we are ready to hear and to trust, "Love is enough."
